HC dismisses plea to stop demolition for Vamsadhara project

SRIKAKULAM: The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Chintada Ravi Kumar, a resident of Amadalavalasa, in the interest of Vamsadhra oustees, seeking that the demolition of the structures in the project villages is stopped. The Advocate General on behalf of the state government submitted the necessary documents before a division bench of the High Court.

The bench dismissed the plea and delivered a judgment in favour of the state government, Seeking compensation for the oustees under the Land Acquisition Act-2013,  a writ petition was filed in the High Court and the Srikakulam administration filed a counter petitions. The bench dismissed the case, stating the Land Acquisition Act-2013,  would not apply to the Vamsadhara project oustees. 

Similarly, the resident of the project village of Duggupuram also filed a petition, stating that the compensation had not been paid for the acquired lands. A special advocate, on behalf of the state government, had submitted the documents mentioning that the compensation was paid during the 2006-07 fiscal year and the irrigation officials had taken the control of the land in question. The case was dismissed. “The government is keen on the project as it will boost the agricultural economy of the district,” said collector K Dhananjaya Reddy.
