‘The investor has to be investigated’

The Congress has decided to approach the trial court against the CBI’s decision to exclude the name of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the Vyapam scam.

The advocates in the case — senior Congress leaders and MPs Kapil Sibal and Vivek Tankha, and independent MP KTS Tulsi — told reporters here on Wednesday that there has been destruction of evidences to save Chouhan.

Remarking that the CBI has become the ‘Compromised Bureau of Investigation’, Sibal alleged that the probe agency is more keen to harass Opposition leaders than finding the truth in a major scam like Vyapam. “We will have to investigate the investigator now. The CBI has manipulated the hard disk, a key evidence, in the case. We have evidences to prove that it has been tampered with,” he said.

Sibal said Prashant Pandey, the whistleblower in the scam, had taken copies of the evidences in a pen drive and the CM’s name was mentioned in it. “It was removed by the CBI. We will approach the trial court against the CBI. It is unfortunate that the investigating agency is trying to manipulate evidences,” he said.

Protecting whistleblowers

“More than 50 people have already been killed. We will have to protect the whistleblowers,” Tulsi said. Tankha said the safety and security of the whistleblowers will have to be ensured as they are being threatened by the culprits.

The Congress has been alleging that the Narendra Modi government, even while proclaiming that it is against corruption, has been going slow on the cases against BJP leaders.

“Morality has gone to dustbin. Hail Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan,” tweeted party vice-president Rahul Gandhi today.
