Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath to set up evening college for fine arts

BENGALURU: From the next academic year, the city will have a dedicated evening college for fine arts that offers undergraduate programmes. Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath (CKP) is all set to start an evening college. The proposal submitted by the CKP trust has been approved and cleared by both Bangalore University and state higher education department. It is now pending for approval with the Higher Education Minister.

According to authorities of CKP, the decision to start an evening college was taken following demands from working professionals. Speaking to Express, BL Shankar, president of the trust said, “Several working professionals who wanted to pursue courses in fine arts had been approaching us. Considering the demand, we decided to set up an evening college that will cater to the needs of those who are interested in fine arts.”

As per the information available from authorities, the evening college will have an entirely different setup. “The principal,  faculty members and staff will be different. However, the new college will use existing infrastructure,” said Shankar.

The intake for the first year will be 30 candidates and the qualification is Class 12 (PUC). The institute is also thinking of providing postgraduate courses at the evening college from 2019-20 academic year. The classes of evening college would begin at 6pm and go on till 9pm.

New campus ready
CKP’s new campus is coming up at Rajarajeshwari Nagar and by the next academic year, the institute will be shifted to the new campus. The evening college will remain at the main campus on Kumarakrupa Road. The new campus provides a residential facility for students.

Courses offered at CKP
BVA, MVA, PG diploma in Animation, and some short-term courses like Fundamental Study of Visual Arts, Nature Study, Print Making and Sculpture.
