CM Devendra Fadnavis announces increase in funds for police sports

PUNE: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said the funds for the sports facility of the state police personnel would be increased to Rs3 crore from the present Rs1 crore.

Addressing the concluding ceremony of 66th All India Police Wrestling Cluster Championship at State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) ground in Ramtekdi, Fadnavis said, "In order to encourage sports among the police personnel, the government has decided to increase the funds to Rs3 crore." He said the current funds of Rs1 crore was not enough because the state police had many sportsmen, who proved their mettle at state- and national-level events.

City mayor Mukta Tilak, city MP Anil Shirole, district guardian minister Girish Bapat, director-general of police (DGP) Satish Mathur, police commissioner Rashmi Shukla, and SRPF's special IG Suresh Kumar were present on the occasion. Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt and Indian shooter Anjali Bhagwat were also present.


Over 2,400 sportsmen from different state police units, Border Security Force and Central Industrial Police Force (CISF) participated in the 66th All India Police Wrestling Cluster Championship. The chief minister facilitated the champions.


The 66th All India Police Wrestling Cluster Championship was a five-day affair. It teed off on October 27.


DGP Mathur had inaugurated the mega event. Wrestling champion Geeta Phogat and police commissioner Shukla was also present on the occasion. The 65th edition of All India Police Wrestling Cluster was held in Bihar capital Patna.
