Champions League: Rampant Roma outclass Chelsea 3-0, watch highlights

In a horror Halloween night for Antonio Conte, Chelsea saw a surprise defeat in the hands of Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday that prevented the visitors from advancing with two rounds still to go. Stephan El Shaarawy scored two impressive goals to embarrass the English club 3-0,

El Shaarawy struck the fastest goal of this season’s Champions League in just 39 seconds. Despite Chelsea creating early chances, it was Antonio Rudiger’s defensive indecision that allowed El Shaarawy to score his second after 36 minutes.

The blues looked weak at the back as Diego Perotti thrashed home a third in the 63rd to move Roma on to eight points, one clear of Chelsea, who slip to second.

Chelsea, however, can take advantage of the fact that Atletico Madrid earned just a point last night after having a surprise home draw with Qarabag. Cesc Fabregas, who was playing his 100th Champions League match, also had a bad game, giving the ball away that saw Perotti strike a fierce 25-metre shot past Courtois.

A downbeat Conte said that his side had to take responsibility for the performance and the result of Group C, which equalled the biggest he has suffered in his Chelsea reign, and needed to rediscover their hunger for battle quickly.
