The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has announced the latest rank for the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Crediting the Institution with an A++ rank, the Council has let JNU jump from an "A" grade last year to acquire the highest grade.

"This milestone for JNU reflects the sheer hard-work and untiring effort by all members of the university," said JNU Rector II S C Garkoti. A review of the country’s institutions was conducted by the NAAC from October 9 to October 11 this year.

The university has also ranked second among top Indian universities as rated by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2017, which is a climb from its third position after the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore and the Institute of Chemical Technology in Mumbai last year.

"We are certain this acknowledgement will further encourage and inspire us all to work even harder to keep JNU ahead of every higher institution in academic teaching and research," the NAAC said.

The NAAC reviews higher educational institutions basing its critique on various parameters including research, infrastructure, learning resources and evaluation method. This year, JNU has managed to secure its position among the country’s highest ranking universities.
