BENGALURU:In response to a petition filed by 91 garbage contractors against invoking the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) against them, the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday asked the authorities not to take precipitative action against them under the Act. Passing an interim order after hearing the petition filed by S N Balasubramaniam and others, Justice A S Bopanna issued notices to the state government, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike and the police department.

The petitioners also brought to the notice of the court that they are facing difficulties as the BBMP had not released bills for the past five months.
