“In this digital era, we just can’t be talking to people, we need to listen to them also. I am open to all suggestions and complaints that come from the public on this app, I will respond to them,” Siddaramaiah said.

BENGALURU: With Assembly elections just six months away, Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah has launched an app in his own name to connect with the people of the state for grievances and other feedback.

Siddaramaiah, with this move, is trying to cement an image makeover that began with setting up a personal twitter account and Facebook page a few months ago in an effort to reach out to the urban and youth constituencies. He is following the legacy of his e-savvy Andhra Pradesh counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu, Uttar Pradesh’s Yogi Adityanath, Madhya Pradesh’s Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Uttarakhand’s Trivendra Singh Rawat.

“In this digital era, we just can’t be talking to people, we need to listen to them also. I am open to all suggestions and complaints that come from the public on this app, I will respond to them,” Siddaramaiah said during the launch on Tuesday.

While Adityanath is taking forward the Jansunwai app launched by his predecessor Akhilesh Yadav and Naidu has had a personal App since 2013, the other two apps, like Siddaramaiah’s, are based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s.

“We went through the Narendra Modi app while designing the Siddaramaiah app, and have made some things differently,” Siddaramaiah’s principal secretary LK Atheeq told ET. He said the centre for e-governance which has designed the Siddaramaiah app, will also look into the features of the other CM apps and go for improvements such as the one in the Andhra Pradesh app, which allows people to anonymously post complaints or go for whistleblowing information.

The Siddaramaiah app will give the users access to interact with him through a window and will provide his daily schedule, along with all updates from the CMO. It is also connected with the Pratidhwani dashboard set up by the CMO, which updates information across departments, progress of various projects and identifies the deadlines that have been met and missed.

Unlike the Modi app, the Siddaramaiah app does not promise “personalised birthday wishes” or emails from him. But both apps are similar in that they invite public comments and suggestions for improvement and building a better state/country. Both apps outline the leader’s vision for governance and details of ongoing programmes. And both apps project their leader’s personality and an insight into their thoughts.
