HAMIRPUR: A day after naming Prem Kumar Dhumal as the BJP's chief ministerial candidate, party chief Amit Shah hit out at incumbent CM Virbhadra Singh and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi saying they were deeply enmeshed in corruption.
Flanked by Dhumal and his son Anurag Thakur, MP from Hamirpur, Shah said Congress politicians were seeking accountability from the central government when their own party had presided over numerous financial scams while in office.
"During Congress's tenure in Delhi, scandals worth Rs 12 lakh crore surfaced. Whether it was ISRO, 2G scam, helicopter scam, CWG scam, Adarsh scam, or coal scam, the party did not spare any sector," Shah said at his rally at Gandhi chowk here on Wednesday.
Recalling the heinous rape of a teenage girl, Gudia, in Shimla's Kotkhai area, Shah said the Congress government had pushed the state to a poor 17th place in the country in crime rates.
Striking out at Rahul Shah said, "I have heard Rahul baba's speeches in which he is claiming that the Congress is going to form the government in Gujarat. I can only say Rahul baba is daydreaming." The BJP's winning streak will continue under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said.
Claiming that Dhumal was all set to become the next CM, Shah sought a massive mandate for the party. "The state can only progress if it has BJP ruling in the state as well as in the Centre. You have been giving the mandate to the BJP and Congress alternatively, that's why the progress and development could not be consistent," he said. Shah said that the Modi government gave a grant of Rs 1 lakh crore to the hill state, which was two-and-a-half times more than what the state got during UPA government's tenure. Shah addressed a rally at Mandi and attacked Rahul and Congress for corruption and bringing the development to halt.
