Mumbai: A 19-year-old labourer died when he fell from a crane at the site of the Bhendi Bazaar redevelopment project on Monday. The project is being managed by the Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust. ccording to the police, the incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Sunday.
They said the labourer, Pintu Yadav (19), was working at a height of 10 storeys when he lost balance and fell. He was rushed to JJ Hospital in Byculla, where he was declared dead before admission.
The police recorded statements from Yadav’s co-workers present at the time of the incident.
Police said SBUT has given the contract to a private firm. According to inquiries so far, the supervisor had not taken enough safety precautions.
“Prima facie, negligence by the supervisor has been observed and we have registered a case of causing death due to negligence under the IPC against him,” said DCP ( Zone I) Manoj Kumar Sharma. SBUT officials declined to comment on the incident.
