Irrfan Khan, AIB team up for The Ministry

Irrfan Khan is collaborating with AIB for the third time with The Ministry.

Actor Irrfan Khan is set to star in an Amazon Original Series, The Ministry, which will be a political satire set in contemporary India’s corridors of power. The series, created by Gursimran Khamba of popular comedy group All India Bakchod (AIB), will premiere in 2018 on Amazon Prime Video.

The Ministry is the story of a washed-up narcissistic Bollywood actor, who is unwittingly appointed as a placeholder Union Culture Minister. Despite a crippling bureaucracy, political gaffes and a team of misfits, he yearns to be loved by the masses once again.

Sharing his excitement about the project, Irrfan Khan said, “I am looking forward to this great collaboration with Amazon and AIB – both have content that makes me very excited to work with them. It will be a great experience to be working on this show which will be very topical and funny and will release globally on Amazon Prime Video.”

This is the third time the actor is teaming up with AIB. Earlier they collaborated on a spoof on Bollywood musicians titled “Bollywood Party Song” and “Dank Irrfan”, which was a series of memes on the internet.

On AIB’s association with Irrfan, Gursimran Khamba said, “Irrfan told us that he wanted to be part of this show when he first heard about it. But because of certain complications, it didn’t work out. Then one night I met him at a party where he took me aside, stared into my eyes and said ‘I want this.’ And we all know how hard it is to resist Irrfan’s eyes.”

 

The announcement of The Ministry comes barely three months after Amazon Prime Video released its first Indian Original series, Inside Edge, which was produced by Farhan Akhtar. The series, which starred Richa Chadha and Vivek Oberoi in the lead roles, is now gearing up for its second season.
