Various public sector organisations in the city observed Vigilance Awareness Week on Monday with a call by Visakhapatnam Port Trust Chairman M.T. Krishna Babu to identify grey areas of corruption and use of technology to weed it out.
At a programme organised by VPT and Dredging Corporation of India, Mr. Krishna Babu elaborated on power of an individual in fighting against corruption. DCI Directors S. Charles and M.S. Rao earlier administered integrity pledge respectively in English and Hindi.
CBI SP S.B. Bhaskar emphasised the importance of awareness and said corrupt individuals might escape from the eyes of the system but nobody could escape from inner conscience.
Citing various slokas from Updanishads, he said they were apt in the present scenario and urged the employees to observe vigilance awareness throughout the year instead of confining it to a week-long celebration.
VPT Deputy Chairman P.L. Haranadh appreciated the initiatives taken by the Centre to curb corruption and underlined the need to strengthen systems to prevent corrupt practices.
Pledge by RINL
At a separate meeting, RINL Chairman-cum-Managing Director P. Madhusudan administered integrity pledge among the employees and called for total e-governance to prevent corruption.
Among others, P.C. Mohapatra, Director (Projects), P. Raychaudhary, Director (Commercial), K.C. Das, Director (Personnel), V.V. Venugopala Rao, Director (Finance), P.K. Rath, Director (Operations) and others were present.
Several outreach activities are being organised in and around the plant during the week to bring awareness among the stakeholders.
HPCL Visakh Refinery is observing the week with the theme of ‘my vision-corruption free India.’
On the first day, Chief General Manager-Materials A.S.V. Ramanan administered the pledge in Hindi and S Raja, Executive Director-VRMP S. Raja in English.
The company is conducting quiz, elocution, crossword competitions and contractors meet.
NTPC Simhadri, BHEL-Heavy Plates and Vessels Plant and other organisations also observed various programmes on the inaugural day of the week.
