Man who dressed up as cartoon characters faces child sex abuse charges

Led from the Delaware County Courthouse in handcuffs Monday charged with counts of deviant sexual misconduct with children, Michael Cripps, 43, of Colwyn, was defiant with a middle finger raised to conceal his face. “F--- you,” he said to reporters who questioned his costumed birthday party enterprise, M.C. Parties, in which Cripps advertised his services masquerading as various cartoon characters to entertain children for $65-an-hour.

Girl shot in arm on Chester street

A 15-year-old girl was shot in the arm Sunday night, and authorities on Monday were investigating a possible connection into the Oct. 21 shooting on a city basketball court that left four people wounded. Based on information provided by the victim, she was with two other girls in the 2900 block of West 11th Street when she was shot, Police Chief James Nolan IV said.

Prosecutor describes fatal night in Coatesville murder trial

The events that culminated in the shooting death of a Coatesville man who was sitting on the porch of his home with friends began hours before the fateful shot was fired, a prosecutor told the jury in opening statements Monday. Those who attacked and tried to rob the men had spent hours looking for a suitable target for a robbery and bringing together the pieces that would be needed to pull one off, most especially a firearm and someone to use it, Assistant District Attorney Cynthia Morgan told the panel in the case of Demetrius Joseph and Dajon Rowe.

East Norriton man faces April 2018 trial in drug delivery death

An East Norriton man will stand trial next April on charges he delivered a fatal dose of fentanyl to a woman who was a patient at a township hospital. The trial for Travis Siuta, 29, of the 500 block of Wellington Road, will begin April 16, 2018, with the selection of a jury, according to an order signed by Montgomery County Judge Wendy Demchick-Alloy. The judge also ordered lawyers in the case to file any pretrial motions by Dec. 6 and she said a pretrial hearing on all matters will be held on Dec. 20.

Penn Valley Community Fair in Telford contributes $20K to local nonprofits

With this year’s $20,500, the total amount the Penn Valley Community Fair has raised over five years for three local community organizations tops $100,000. “Thank you for all you’re doing to help the people in the community,” Pastor Andrew Saunders, Penn Valley Church’s Telford campus interim pastor, told representatives of Keystone Opportunity Center, the Telford Volunteer Fire Company and the Indian Valley Public Library.

Flyers get a ‘big point’ maybe, but Hakstol not happy about it

Eagles’ Pederson won’t dwell on quelling the critics

The inevitable question about vindication came as Doug Pederson looked down at his press podium Monday. Ben Simmons leads Sixers over Rockets

The Houston Rockets allowed Philadelphia 76ers point guard Ben Simmons to take jump shots on Monday night and he made them pay. In Philadelphia’s 115-107 win in Houston, Simmons made 10 of 15 shots, many of them from mid-range, to score a career-high 24 points, adding nine assists and seven rebounds. When asked why he took more jumpers than he had in his first six games, Simmons’ teammate Amir Johnson answered from behind the group of reporters.

Kapler appointment made official, will be introduced as Phillies’ manager this week

The Phillies made official their managerial choice of Gabe Kapler Monday, giving the 42-year-old former outfielder and bodybuilding cover boy his first major league bench job. Kapler, who will leave his position as the Los Angeles Dodgers’ director of player development, is renowned as a bright baseball mind who is of a like mind with Phillies general manager Matt Klentak on the place of advanced stats and sabermetrics in the daily operations of a baseball club.

‘House of Cards’ canceled as fallout continues for Kevin Spacey

The fallout facing Kevin Spacey widened Monday following an accusation that he allegedly made sexual advances on a teen boy, with Netflix pulling the plug on his hit show “House of Cards” and “deeply troubled” producers of the political thriller arriving on set to comfort cast mates. Executives from Netflix and the show’s producer, Media Rights Capital, said they arrived in Baltimore, where the show is shot, Monday afternoon to make sure actors and crew “continue to feel safe and supported.” Spacey was not scheduled to be on set Monday.
