India is likely to hold talks with Japan, United States and Australia in November in a bid to counter China's growing influence in the region, according to a report by The Economic Times.

The official-level meeting of the four nations is expected to happen in Manila, Philippines in November.

India will also host the foreign ministers of Russia and China in December under the Russia-India-China (RIC) trilateral format, on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit, in Delhi.

The first quadrilateral meeting was held in 2007. However, Australia had pulled out of the initiative the following year, leading to the dissolution of the initiative.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson had last week mooted the idea again during his meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj.

Japanese PM Abe is also expected to propose a strategic dialogue among leaders of the four countries, with an eye on counteracting China’s expansion under its “Belt and Road” policy, during United States President Donald Trump's visit there in November.
