“We have lost everything believing the CM’s word. Today we neither have our old house nor the promised double bedroom house. We are forced to live in rented houses. We want the government to hand over our houses at the earliest so that we could live in peace,” a woman resident P Latha said. The slum-dwellers said they were opposed to the proposal of double bedroom houses in place of concrete houses they were living but were forcefully vacated. “We were not in favour of vacating our houses. We never demanded double bedroom houses. We were happy with our old houses.
We clearly told officials that they could construct double bedroom houses at some other places for the needy. But they forced us to vacate promising double bedroom houses but now there is no word from them,” said G Nagesh. On the other hand, the district administration is blaming the contractors for the delay. “The work is moving at a snail’s pace and the contractor is doling out various excuses for the delay,’’ a revenue official said on condition of anonymity.
“We thought that in six to nine months’ time we would have our own houses. So we vacated our house. But even after 30 months there are no signs of the houses getting ready. Moreover, the contractor is threatening us. He says he is not answerable to us. But officials say works are going on and houses will be ready soon,” T Mallesh, another resident, said.Fed up with the assurances by the officials, the residents have decided to launch an agitation to bring the delay to the notice of the chief minister the delay in the housing project.
