Panaji: The Indo-US joint working group on aircraft carrier technology cooperation (JWGACTC) visited INS Hansa recently to gain a better understanding of Indian Navy's fighter aircraft operations, even as India firmed up technology for its first indigenous aircraft carrier.
This was the fourth meeting of the joint working group since the two countries began candid discussions on aircraft carrier technology in 2015. A delegation comprising seven Indian officials and 14 US delegates visited for the talks in Goa on October 29. Of the three previous meetings, two were held in USA and one in India.
"The joint group visited the premier naval air station Hansa and witnessed the flying facilities, including a demonstration of the MiG-29K fighter aircraft operations. The delegation was also taken onboard India's sole aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya on Tuesday," a naval source said.
The US delegation was led by programme executive officer for US navy aircraft carriers, rear admiral Brian Antonio.
The JWGACTC is part of the larger India-US defense technology and trade initiative whose intent is to reduce procedural obstacles to facilitate broader cooperation in defense production.
"The defence ministry here has identified aircraft carrier technology as a major focus area. Periodic meetings are being held between the two countries for information exchange in the field," a naval official said.
