Winter sets in with chilly winds

BENGALURU: OverCasT conditions along with dry, cold Northeasterlies brought down temperatures by 1 to 3  degrees Celsius on Monday, indicating the onset of winter. Overcast conditions, which have been attributed to cyclonic circulation along Tamil Nadu coast, is expected to persist for the next two to three days before the skies clear up.

Scattered light rainfall is also forecast for parts of South Interior Karnataka during the course of the week. In Bengaluru on Monday, according to Indian Meteorological Department, maximum temperature was one degree below normal at 26.7 degrees Celsius, while there was no fluctuation in the minimum temperatures. However, in some parts of South Interior Karnataka, minimum temperatures were below normal by -1.6 to -3.0 degrees Celsius.

Speaking to Express, SSM Gavaskar, scientist at Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Cell, said that overcast conditions will continue in parts of Karnataka, until the cyclonic circulation dissipates along the Tamil Nadu and Telangana coasts. “Both maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be below normal due to the prevailing conditions,” he added.
