Telangana TDP leader Revanth Reddy joins Congress

NEW DELHI: The Congress got a leg up in Telangana as Telugu Desam Party state unit head Revanth Reddy along with several leaders joined the party in the presence of Rahul Gandhi.

Along with Reddy, who is a TDP lawmaker in the state assembly, former ministers, former MLAs, former MLCs, district presidents, Zila Parishad presidents and hundreds of office bearers of TDP in Telangana also joined the Congress.

Further many student leaders of the Osmania University's Joint-Action Committee also reposed their faith in the leadership of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party vice president Rahul Gandhi and the party’s ideology.

AICC in charge of Telangana RC Khuntia, state unit chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy , former MPs Hanumantha Rao and Madhu Goud Yashki were also present on the occasion. 

Khuntia had replaced Digvijaya Singh in August after the Madhya Pradesh leader’s contyroversial tetts against TRS leaders and allegations of state police hobnobbing with ISI had painted the Congress in a poor light.

Digvijaya however continues to be in charge of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

“Chief minister Chandrasekhar Rao is neglecting the youth and farmers,” Khuntia said adding the party was planning a massive rally on November 18.

The Congress had lost out in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana after the latter came into existence as India’s newest state in 2014, months before the grand old party was wiped out in the national polls.

Telangana Congress has since been trying hard to revive the state unit with Hanumantha Rao constantly urging the AICC to deploy a new in charge. Khuntia, who had earlier worked as Singh’s deputy, seems to be on the job but it remains to be seen if he can take on the ruling TRS.
