Hyderabad roads get damaged by rains repeatedly due to poor quality of work execution by the municipal authorities. It has become a regular feature that the roads are relaid after every monsoon with poor quality material.

Metal roads are finished without hot tar mixing sand/granite fine dust filling on the top, leaving holes on its surface open, leading to damage during rainy season. These open holes are root cause for deteriorating the condition of the roads.

Earlier, the practice of laying and relaying of top surface of bitumen roads with roller machine was being done and for second time again manually sprinkling hot tar liquid by mixing sand / granite fine dust.

The top surface of road used to be finished with roller machine to make smooth bonding between the tar and granite chip duly closing gaps helping maintain the metal road in good condition that was usually durable for over five years. I request government to revive this practice.

Bagh Lingampally

While the city’s roads have taken a battering and the age-old drainage system completely thrown out of gear with the city becoming a cesspool of garbage, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the ministers concerned have not yet woken up from their slumber.

Except for small patch works at a snail’s pace, the promised massive road restoration on a war footing is just not being taken up.

One wonders if the same is taken for granted if any global conference takes place or a VIP’s visit is scheduled in the city? Roads are suddenly beautified and then all the greenery removed after the event ends?

The GHMC should have made the city monsoon-ready during dry months by removing encroachments on storm water drains. When will a sense of responsibility and accountability finally dawn on these so-called leaders and administrators.

East Marredpally

The recent rains exposed the shoddy patchwork done by the GHMC. With tar-filled potholes wearing off on most of the roads, the poor maintenance of roads is frustrating.

Khanamet, like many other areas has been affected the worst. As a result, motorists and pedestrians face extreme difficulties.

I appeal to the GHMC to entrust civil engineers of excellence with the task of laying and maintaining roads in order to mitigate the sufferings of people during monsoon.
