Delhi Police has apprehended three persons, including a juvenile, for allegedly kidnapping and killing a 17-year-old boy in Mehrauli. Initial investigation revealed that one of the accused was fond of a girl, and was outraged that victim was “trying to get close to her”. Additional DCP (south) Chinmoy Biswal said they have apprehended three persons — Akash Chaudhary alias Ashu (23), Naveen Singh (20) and a 17-year-old juvenile. “On Saturday night, a minor boy, Jatin Goyal, was kidnapped from Mehrauli. His family received a ransom call, with the caller demanding Rs 20 lakh,” he said.

Police traced the mobile tower location from where the call was made, and a raid was conducted, following which police recovered the boy’s scooter. “Police then started scanning CCTVs nearby and footage showed three persons on a Royal Enfield hiding their faces,” a senior officer said. Police showed the footage to the boy’s relatives and friends and one of them identified Akash as the owner of the vehicle. “A raid was conducted and police arrested Akash from his residence. He admitted to the crime and the other two boys were also picked up,” the officer said.

During questioning, Naveen told police that the victim had been trying to “get close” to a girl he was fond of. The girl and Jatin studied in the same school, while Naveen graduated last year.

“Naveen admitted that he and his friends decided to get rid of Jatin. They took him to an isolated forest area and strangulated him,” the officer said. Police said they have recovered the body.
