KIA records 11.7% growth in the first half of fiscal year

 Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) here recorded an 11.7% growth in overall traffic in the first half of the fiscal year 2017-18 compared to the previous year.

The country's third busiest airport served a total of 12.39 million passengers during the period. The growth figures, announced by the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) on Monday also showed a 13.3% increase in domestic passenger traffic.

During the same period, international passenger traffic went up by 3.6%. "Air Traffic Movements (ATMs), saw an increase of 2.9%, clocking 91,644 ATMs with an average of 501 ATMs per day. Average passenger movement per day clocked in at 67,700," a BIAL release said. The highest single-day passenger traffic of 78,278 was recorded on May 19, 2017.

Now in its ninth year of operation, KIA saw a steady growth in cargo traffic as well. "Cargo traffic has shown a substantial growth of 8.1% to reach a total volume of 173,010 metric tonnes (MT)."

On-Time Performance: 86%

On-Time Performance (OTP) of airlines at the airport touched 86%. "Baggage delivery time excelled with the first bag delivered within eight minutes of parking of the flight for domestic; and 10 minutes for international arrivals. The last bag was delivered within 16 minutes for domestic arrivals and 33 minutes for international arrivals," the release said.
