The Secundereabad Cantonment Board has resolved to revise building norms to facilitate greater built-up area.

At a board meeting on Monday, elected and nominated members of the board discussed a draft of revised building norms. Among the key changes in the draft presented before the board is the increase in floor-area ratio across all categories of land sizes. Revisions have also been made to exclude some parts of the construction like staircases from the area covered for construction.

The demand to increase floor space area and to bring it on a part with GHMC has been long pending in the Secunderabad Cantonment. The new norms, if approved by the Defence Ministry, may also see several buildings that have flouted existing norms, get regularised.

More doctors

The board also resolved to improve the functioning of Bolarum Cantonment Hospital by appointing more doctors, surgeons and staff. Sans staff, the hospital is now restricted to running out-patient services. Intervention of State government was sought to improve the hospital’s functioning.

During the board meeting, member of ward 7, P. Bhagyasree threatened to walk out if the board decided to set up a garbage disposal facility at Mahatma Gandhi Community Hall. She also sought a discussion on the matter and a quick resolution. The CEO sought two weeks to address the problem.

Meanwhile, Congress party men gathered to protest at SCB office, demanding opening of roads closed by the Local Military Authority, resolution of the garbage disposal problem and also improvement in the functioning of Cantonment Hospital. The protesters were detained by police and later released.
