Rajinikanth film Kaala not releasing on Pongal, clarifies Dhanush

Tamil actor Dhanush’s home production banner Wunderbar Films on Monday issued a clarification to put an end to rumours about superstar Rajinikanth’s Kaala release date. The filmmakers said the upcoming gangster movie won’t be ready for the release in January.

“Contrary to rumours and articles, #Kaala would not be ready for a January nor Pongal release (sic),” read a post on Wunderbar Films Twitter page.

The news comes in the backdrop of speculations that the release of Rajinikanth’s most-awaited film 2.0 may get postponed due to post-production reasons. However, the official release date of the mega-budget sci-fi film is still January 25, 2018.

Bollywood actor Huma Qureshi seems to have finished shooting her promotions for her debut Tamil film Kaala. She took to Twitter to thank the director for casting her in the film. “With my director @beemji & DOP #MuraliSir..thank you for a wonderful journey called #Kaala ..cannot wait to share the film with u all (sic),” she wrote on her Twitter page.

According to reports, the shooting of Kaala will be completed by November, following which the post-production work will begin.

The film went on floors in Mumbai earlier this year. After completing the first schedule in the city, the filmmakers returned to Chennai. They have been shooting there on a Dharavi set that has been built in EVP Film City reportedly at a cost of Rs 5 crore.

Kaala is the second consecutive outing of Pa Ranjith with Rajinikanth after last year’s blockbuster Kabali. The film also stars Nana Patekar, Samuthirakani, Pankaj Tripathi among others in important roles. Senior actor Easwari Rao will be playing Rajinikanth’s wife in the film. It has music by Santhosh Narayanan.

Kaala deals with the struggles of Tamils from Thirunelveli in Mumbai. And Rajinikanth plays a don, who fights for the rights of an oppressed class.
