CHENNAI: After an indifferent start, the Northeast monsoon is likely to become active over Tamil Nadu, especially the coastal districts, from Monday. The meteorological department said there will be a significant increase in rainfall activity on Monday and Tuesday due to an upper air circulation. It also issued a heavy rainfall warning to the State and Puducherry for Monday.

Private weather blogger Pradeep John said there will be a dramatic change in weather conditions and sharp spells of rain. He said, “MJO (Madden Julian Oscillation) effect, an equatorial wave which enhances rainfall, is to come into our basin. So it is going to be above-normal monsoon rain this year.”
