COIMBATORE: Heritage enthusiasts have found a 14th century memorial in a village near Coimbatore.

While the enthusiasts have not been able to establish whose memorial it is, they say that it resembles that of Ragahvendra's memorial in Thirukoilur.

Heritage enthusiasts belonging to the Tamil Nadu Heritage Enthusiasts Group spotted this memorial in a village called Belladi, about 4km from Karamadai.

"The memorial resembles that of Raghavendra found in Thirukoilur. It has a 'Thulasi Maadam' on top of it which depicts Vrindavanam. Beneath is the grave which is 7ft long and 3ft wide," said a member of the group, S Ananda Kumar.

The 'Thulasi Maadam' has depictions of three forms of Lord Krishna, one with him holding a pot of butter, another playing the flute and the third with him dancing on Kaalingam snake. The fourth side of the 'Thulasi Maadam' has two Gajalakshmis, said Ananda Kumar.

"The memorial lies on a poramboke land. And before anyone claims ownership to the land, we urge the state government or the officials of the district administration to preserve the site," said Ananda Kumar.

"We are trying to find out whose grave it is. We spoke to the villagers but we could not establish anything. We have only been able to find that it belongs to 14th or 15th century," said Ananda Kumar.
