Opposition parties condemn Amritsar, Sangrur murders

Following the murder of two political activists, the BJP and AAP blamed the Congress government for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. In a statement released here Monday, state BJP president, Vijay Sampla, said that the murder of Hindu Shiv Sena district chief, Vikram Sharma, in Amritsar and the killing of SAD sarpanch Manpreet Kaur’s husband, Harkeerat Singh, in Sangur’s Burj village paints the true picture of the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab.

Coming down heavily on Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, Sampla said, “Be it the murder of RSS leader Ravindra Gosain in Ludhiana, a few days back, or the killing of a Church priest in broad daylight, or political vendetta unleashed against SAD-BJP leaders and workers at the behest of Congress leaders and their supporters, such incidents have been commonly taking place ever since Capt. Amarinder Singh has come to power. This is ample evidence to state that Congress government has failed to maintain law and order situation in Punjab,”.

Leader of Opposition, Sukhpal Khaira, too condemned the murders and said that the situation was fast spiralling out of control. “The Punjab Police has been heavily politicised and therefore it is unable to perform its basic role. How many cases will the Chief Minister handover to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for probe,” he questioned.
