Pune: A 30-year-old tour operator from Ahmednagar district pushed his wife to death from the third floor of a building under construction at Charholi near Alandi because she opposed his illicit relationship with a woman.
The Alandi police on Sunday arrested the suspect, Devidas Palave, and his driver, a day after Manda Palave (28) was murdered. Probe revealed that Devidas had taken Manda to the third floor of the building on the pretext of showing her the flat he was going to purchase in Charholi and pushed her down.
Assistant inspector Nandkumar Gaikwad said on Friday (October 27) Devidas had brought Manda and their two sons to Charholi by lying to them that he had booked a flat.
"The family stayed in the house of Devidas' uncle in Charholi on Friday," he said.
Gaikwad said Devidas, his driver and Manda went to the under-construction building to see the flat on Friday night. But the watchman at the site did not allow them go upstairs because there was no one to show them the location of their flat in the site.
"On Saturday morning, the trio again went to the building. This time, the minor son of Devidas' uncle had accompanied them," Gaikwad said.
While they were descending the stairs of the building around 11am, the watchman heard a loud thud and saw a woman lying on the ground with severe head injuries.
"Devidas and the two others came down running and told the watchman that she had fallen from the third floor. They rushed her to a hospital, where she succumbed to injuries," Gaikwad said.
The assistant inspector said Manda's brother, Adinath Khedkar, came to the police station and lodged a complaint stating that Devidas was harassing the victim for the past few years because she was opposing his illicit relationship with a woman.
"We took Devidas into custody for questioning. During the sustained interrogation, he admitted that he had pushed his wife down from the third floor," he added.
