Investigation reveals use of app drug procurement

The arrest of four persons, including two dental students, for alleged drug peddling has made the city police further probe into the sale of narcotic drugs among students.

The city police on Thursday arrested four persons and seized, among others, 9 gm of MDMA powder, 185 LSD stamps and 25 MDMA pills. The police said the accused were supplying these drugs at parties.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Hanumantharaya said students, especially from medical and engineering courses, are said to be targets for these peddlers dealing with high-end narcotic drugs. It was the first time that the city police have arrested persons for alleged sale of high-end drugs.

Mr. Hanumantharaya told reporters that the police were trying to find how the arrested were sourcing the drugs. The police are probing into alleged links of arrested persons with peddlers in Kerala and other parts of the country.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Uma Prashant said the police are also going into prevalence of sale of such high-end drugs in and around medical and professional colleges. “It’s a new thing for us. We are going deep to find persons behind sale of these drugs,” she said.

Investigation so far has revealed about the use of a mobile app for procurement of drugs. The drug peddlers have been placing on the app the contact details of persons wanting these drugs. The drugs are despatched once payment is made by the person. The police are on the lookout for those operating the app.

The police on Friday produced the four arrested persons before the jurisdictional magistrate, who remanded them in judicial custody. The case has been handed over to the Ullal police for further investigation, the police said.
