CHENNAI: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday got stuck in a lift at the Chennai airport for nearly four minutes due to a technical glitch. Chennai Airport sources said Palaniswami was to take a 7.30 pm flight to Madurai and had reached the airport around 7 pm. After spending some time in the VVIP lounge on the third floor of the domestic terminal, he took a lift to reach the ground floor. But the lift got stuck near the second floor for about four minutes.

Mechanics quickly set right the defect and opened the door. Palaniswami then safely walked out of the lift and boarded the Madurai-bound flight to attend the ‘Thevar Jayanti’ celebrations in Madurai and Ramanathapuram districts. The flight though was delayed by 15 minutes because of the incident.
Airport director G Chandramouli has ordered an enquiry into the malfunctioning of the lift to fix accountability.

On September 4, nine persons, including Handlooms and Textiles Minister O S Manian, MLA Thamimun Ansari and Nagapattinam MP K Gopal, were stuck in a lift at the Tiruvarur Government Medical College Hospital for over 40 minutes.Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam is also joining the Chief Minister in the ‘Thevar Jayanti’ celebration in Madurai and then at Pasumpon, native place of U Muthuramalinga Thevar in Ramanathapuram district. The 55th guru pooja and 110th birth anniversary of Muthuramalinga Thevar is being celebrated from Saturday for the past three days.
