Students unleash creativity in painting competition

Twenty best paintings, 10 each from senior and junior categories, were selected

Students from Class III to Class X expressed their thoughts against corruption through their paintings at the painting competition held here on Sunday to mark the Vigilance Awareness Week from October 30 to November 4.

The competition was organised by The Hindu in association with the public sector NLC India Limited in two categories – juniors (from Standard III to VI) and seniors (Standard VII to X). The topics given for juniors were ‘Corruption Free India, Avenues of Corruption, and Stop Corruption to Spread Smile’. For seniors, the topics were ‘My Role for Corruption Free India, Ill Effects of Corruption, and Break the Corruption Chain’.

Over 700 students from 65 schools across Coimbatore participated in the contest.

Twenty best paintings, 10 each from senior and junior categories, were selected by poet and writer Maruthur K. Koteeswaran.

N.J. Kumaresh, Commissioner for GST, encouraged the students for their upright thinking against corruption that they brought out in their paintings. He said that all the public sector undertakings were observing Vigilance Awareness Week coinciding the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

NLC Additional Deputy General Manager M. Anantha Naranayan, Mr. Maruthur K. Koteeswaran and National Model School principal Geetha spoke.

Three toppers and seven consolation prizes were given in each category. The toppers in senior category are P. Lakshmi Priya (Class VIII - National Model Matriculation Hr. Sec. School); V. Niharika (Class IX, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan) and S. Keerthivassan (Class X of Bharathi Matriculation Hr. Sec. School).

The toppers in junior category are J. Abijith Narayana (Class VI of S.B.O.A. Matriculation Hr. Sec. School); N. Subikshan (Class VI of A.R.C. Matriculation Hr.Sec. School) and K. Gurumithra (Class IV of PSBB Millennium.)

Before the prize distribution, class V student D. Shanat of Peepal Prodigy School, Kuniyamuthur, exhibited his talent by identifying the actions, and things around him blindfolded.

Mr. Kumaresh gave away prizes, plaques and medals to the toppers.

Students and their parents were administered pledge against corruption by Mr. Kumaresh.
