CHENNAI: The Inner Goddess Academy conducted a worhshop recently on how to sync our mind and body seamlessly. The ‘Sync: Mind & Body’ workshop, which was facilitated by city-based dancer Aparna Nagesh, saw participation from around 30 women from different walks of life. “It started off as something called the ‘move’ project. I am a believer of movement, because I feel when you physically get up and move, the energy in your mind shifts to something more postive,” Aparna said.

Connecting the six elements of movement to meta aspects, emotional and mental aspects of one’s life formed the crux of the workshop.  Aparna further highlighted the importance of the mind-body connect and spoke about how most people today don’t interact with each other at all. “There is an obvious lack of communication in today’s social setups...people prefer to stay closed and unto themselves unless there is a crisis. The human connect is disappearing and that thought is exactly what gave rise to this idea.”

Students, homemakers and professionals threw caution to the air and performed certain actions and movements under Aparna’s guidance. Moving like water, feather and even paper, the participants discovered their mind and body sync. The Inner Goddess Academy, which was started in 2015, conducts regular workshops and conferences to build skills in women and are trying to economically empower young women.

“Aparna was my teacher at High Kicks, where I used to learn dance for three years. And I happened to tell her how one of the biggest problems that women in India face today is a lack of understanding of their bodies. That is when she told me about her movement therapy course and that is how we decided to collaborate and make this happen at any cost,” said Ananya Parekh, founder of the academy.
