Jaipur: Two trucks transporting meat were intercepted and stopped by the Jaipur police on Ajmer Highway near Bagru, after cow vigilante groups raised alarm that beef was allegedly being transported in the trucks. The police, however, found that it was buffalo meat and later released the trucks.

The sources informed TOI that early on Monday morning some self-styled 'gau rakshaks' (cow vigilantes) informed police that beef was being transported inside two AC container trucks and it will pass through Ajmer Highway on Monday morning.

After getting the information, Bagru police sent a team and collected the samples from the trucks. "Initially, some people alleged that cows were being transported from one place to another. We intercepted the vehicles and searched them. We did not find any cow meat there," said DCP (west) Ashok Gupta, adding that people also alleged that it was 'gau maas' (beef).

The police collected the samples and sent them for testing. The report suggested that it was buffalo meat. "The trucks were passing through Jaipur and were headed to Kolkata. We have not found any beef in the trucks and the vehicles were released," said RS Shekhawat, SHO Bagru.

Rashtriya Mahila Gauraksha Dal had levelled allegations against the truck drivers who were Meo from Mewat region.

The same vigilante group had created a high voltage drama outside a city-based hotel when it claimed that beef was served inside the hotel.

After the incident, the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) had sealed the hotel and sent samples of meat for testing. The FSL report had said that meat was not beef.

"Our informants are spread across the region. They alerted us that a truck was passing with beef in it, hence, we informed the police," said a member of the cow vigilante group.
