A complaint was registered against an unidentified person at Andheri police station on Sunday for allegedly masturbating in front of women at Airport Road Metro station, police said.

“On complaint of a 28-year-old woman, an FIR under IPC Section 354 (A) was registered on Sunday against an unknown person,” said Deepak Devraj, DCP PRO, Mumbai Police.  The woman lodged a complaint after she found a man allegedly masturbating near the escalator on Thursday afternoon, police said.

“When I was entering the station, I saw this man masturbating when women were passing by. Two women before me informed the security at the station. But as they were heading to him, he took the escalator and fled downstairs. I feel the staff did not take concrete steps to catch him and only ensured that he left,” said the woman. She later gave a written complaint at the Ghatkopar Metro station and even took to Twitter to inform the Metro authorities.

The Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) responded to the tweet, saying: “Message acknowledged. We wish to inform you that Safety and Security of passengers is of paramount importance to Mumbai Metro. We have taken note of your complaint and are in the process of implementing various measures, to ensure that such incidents are not repeated. In addition, we request you to file police complaint, in order to take this to a logical conclusion.”
