The Athletics Federation of India has decided that athletes who skip National camps will not allowed to take part in its selection meets for international competitions.
The Commonwealth Games in Australia and Asian Games in Indonesia are to be held next year.
Lack of clarity
The decision was taken at its AGM in New Delhi on Sunday but there is some confusion over it. A few top athletes train abroad and there is no clarity whether this rule will be applicable to them.
“Athletes who have been invited for national camps are not supposed to go abroad for training. And if they do, they will not be allowed to take part in selection meets,” C.K. Valson, the AFI Secretary, told The Hindu.
“If they are not in national camps, if they are training somewhere else, they can come and participate.”
The AFI has also suspended Puducherry, Manipur and Nagaland associations for not being active while the Punjab association (PAA) has been handed a three-month suspension for skipping the two-day AGM.
