1,129 students get degrees at SVNIT’s 15th convocation

Surat: A total of 1,129 students were awarded degrees at the 15th annual convocation of Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) on Sunday. Of the total 1,129 students, 702 were present to receive their certificates at the convocation. Fifty-two students received PhD degrees, 278 Master of Technology degrees, 747 Bachelor of Technology degrees and 52 other were awarded five-year Master of Science integrated programme degrees.


A total of 33 gold medals and one silver medal were awarded to students by Professor Anil Kane, former vice-chancellor of Maharaja Sayajirao University, who was chief guest at the convocation. Jaya Panvalkar, chairperson of board of governors of SVNIT, and S R Gandhi, director of SVNIT, conferred the degrees to the students. Kane spoke on the importance of brahmacharya, satya and ahimsa. He explained that, "Brahmacharya should not be practised in only one form. When one is in pursuit of a goal it means he is practising the virtue of brahmacharya."
