Case against defaulters of 15 car loans

more-in

Navi Mumbai: The Rabale police are on the lookout for defaulters of around 15 vehicle loans, who allegedly submitted fake documents to the bank.

The police suspect the involvement of at least 16 people who know each other. The loans were procured between October 2012 and January 2013 from Maharashtra Rural Bank in Ghansoli. In a recent audit, the bank found that beneficiaries of 15 of the 25 vehicle loans had defaulted on payments. “The bank had granted a total ₹2.12 crore in vehicle loans, out of which ₹1.74 crore was unpaid. We noticed that some of the defaulters were witnesses for each other. So they probably worked as a gang to cheat the bank,” Assistant Police Inspector Santosh Patil said.

Some of them did not even buy vehicles, and submitted fake quotation papers, he said. Bank manager Sangeeta Rajendra Kirve has registered a case with the police.
