Kin of 8 Indians missing in Iraq give DNA samples

samples of the kin of eight men, who are among the 39 Indians missing in Iraq, were collected at the Medical College here today.

The samples of 21 family members of the missing men were collected on the directions of External Affairs Ministry, officials said.


The families told reporters they had no idea why their samples were collected and that the officials did not give them any reason either.

The 39 Indians, mostly from Punjab's Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala and districts, went missing in Iraq's Mosul when it was overrun by the Islamic State.

The central continues to classify the 39 men as "missing".

External Affairs Minister has on several occasions over the past three years assured the families that the was making all efforts to trace the missing men.
