Dharma Productions' upcoming venture Brahmastra (which was previously given the tentative title 'Dragon') is touted to be the most ambitious project ever for the producer Karan Johar, as well as the director of the film, Ayan Mukerji.

The sheer importance of the project for the makers is even more reinforced now that the film's budget has been revealed. According to a report by Mid-day, one of the co-producers of the film, Namit Malhotra, hinted that the film's budget might exceed Rs 150 crore.

"We aspire to create something homegrown that can match Hollywood standards. We can't be penny-pinching with the scale. Hollywood has moved from dramas and rom-coms to big scale films, which make more money eventually. India, too, is getting there," said Malhotra, as quoted by Mid-Day.

Earlier this month, Johar introduced Brahmastra to the public through a post on Twitter. Ranbir Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan and Alia Bhatt will play the lead roles and the film is slated to release on 15 August, 2019. It will be a fantasy-adventure-superhero flick.

It was also reported that the film will be made as a trilogy, and the 2019 flick is going to be the first installment of the series. Shedding light on the trilogy, Malhotra adds, "The films will progress from establishing the characters, to the protagonist achieving his goal. Ayan's vision will strike a chord with everyone, from the ages of six to 60."

Malhotra also said Brahmastra will have no conceptual similarities to any other superhero films in the past. The film will be shot in a "regular way and then it will be converted into 3D", reports Mid-day.
