BENGALURU/BELAGAVI: The body of multi-crore fake stamp paper racket mastermind Abdul Karim Telgi (57) was handed over to the family on Friday after the postmortem was conducted at Victoria Hospital. Telgi’s wife, daughter and son in-law waited the whole day for completion of formalities as he had died while serving a prison term.
The postmortem was conducted at 4.30pm in the presence of a judicial magistrate and prisons department officials. The entire procedure was video-recorded as per procedure. The autopsy ended around 6 pm after which the body was handed over to his family. The family left the city around 7pm by road to reach Khanapur near Belagavi to perform last rites of Telgi on Saturday.
Telgi’s son in-law Irfan Talikote told media that the body will be taken to his house at Vidya Nagar in Khanapur and the final rites will be performed at 10.30am. He, however, declined to speak about the diary which was written by Telgi while he was serving life imprisonment. The diary is said to have some details related to the fake stamp paper scam and also names of some of police officials. “The diary is with his daughter Sana and the family will speak about it if necessary,” Irfan said.
Telgi’s younger brother Abdul Azim Telgi, who is Khanapur Town Municipal Corporation president, said the funeral procession will be taken out from Vidya Nagar to the Muslim graveyard in Laxmi Nagar.
