Victim loses balance, falls on the road

A 61-year-old businessman died as he fell off his scooty after hitting a pothole in north Delhi’s Civil Lines on Wednesday evening.

The victim was on his way home from Kashmere Gate when the incident happened.

Jagdish Sukhija, who had an electronics shop in Chandni Chowk, was going home towards Rohini Sector 13 and had just crossed Metcalfe House around 6.30 p.m. when his two-wheeler hit a pothole.

He lost balance and fell on the road. Locals rushed to the spot and took him to Sushrut Trauma Centre where he was declared brought dead.

The locals called the police. The cops found his blue-coloured scooty lying on the roadside.

“The police were informed about his death when they reached the police trauma centre after which his family was informed. There were injuries on his head and near his nose,” said a senior police officer.

Cops probe other angle

According to the police, prima facie, the cause of accident was losing balance after tripping on the pothole but they are investigating whether a vehicle hit him from behind.

“A case under Section 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death due to negligence) has been registered and further probe is on,” the officer said.
