Kota: A 24-year-old woman, who got married 10 days ago, was arrested along with her brother and two others from Dug town of Jhalawar district for attempting to poison her husband and family on Saturday.
The four have been charged for criminal conspiracy with intention to commit crime under various sections of the IPC. They were produced before the court and sent to judicial custody for 15 days.
The woman, a native of Badnagar from Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh, was allegedly 'purchased' by her husband, a youth hailing from Chandarpura village under Dug police station, for Rs 80,000, and the couple got married on October 17.
On October 26, she allegedly conspired with her brother and two others to rob her husband and family and flee with valuables and cash after serving them tea laced with some poisonous substance. But the 'gang' failed in their attempt as villagers reached the groom's house in time and rescued the family, who were in an unconscious state, and rushed them to a hospital. The husband and family are still undergoing treatment but are out of danger.
"The four accused include 'purchased' bride Ranu Sain (24), her brother Ravi (26) and his friend Dharmendra, all natives of Badnagar in Ujjain district in MP, and Kalibai (40), a resident of Dug town of Jhalawar district, who was the mediator for the marriage. All the four were arrested on Saturday morning and produced before the court in Choumahala town," said Dug SHO Luv Kumar Tiwari.
The accused Ranu Sain married Daru Singh after a wedding deal was stuck through mediator Kalibai for an amount of Rs 80,000, the SHO said.
The two accused, Ranu's brother Ravi and his friend Dharmendra, reached the groom's house on Thursday evening to take her back to her parental home as per tradition, for the first time after marriage.
Late in the evening, the bride mixed the poisonous substance in tea and served the same to her husband and his family. After drinking the poisoned tea, the condition of her husband Daru Singh, father-in-law Surtan Singh and brother-in-law Shankar Singh worsened. But the husband, sensing something wrong, shouted and alerted the neighbours.
