The master of business in sport management from the Deakin University is an intensive course that one should embark upon to pursue one’s passion in sports. I strongly recommend that one has some practical work experience before commencing the course. This makes the course a lot more interesting and easy to grasp for students. It has been an engaging two years at the Deakin University, and this international experience has made me more adaptable to various cultures, people and working environments. It has largely enhanced my theoretical knowledge of the sport industry and most importantly, helped me identify my strengths in marketing and communication, as well as deepened my interest in projects primarily focusing on the development of women in sport.
As part of the Deakin Graduate Business School, students have various opportunities that prepare them for life outside the university. I had the opportunity to volunteer as the public relations director of the society and further engage with various internal and external stakeholders. Along with my key knowledge and learning, I have been fortunate to have undertaken two, month-long internships as part of my master’s degree with the prestigious Adidas Group and the Deakin South Asia office, which has further helped me apply theory in a practical setting.
I am presently assisting Cycling Victoria in a part-time role that demands planning, promotion, implementation and evaluation of consumer-led events. It entails building membership initiatives to increase participation of women in cycling in the state of Victoria. Communications and marketing coordination are a part of my daily tasks.
As for my plan ahead, I look forward to full-time leadership and management positions in communications as well as developing sport for women in Australia and India.
