A flood alert was issued today to 10 villages in Sathyamangalam taluk after discharge of surplus water from Gunderipallam reservoir, following copious rains over the past few days in Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve area.
Officials said the heavy rains had resulted in good inflows into Gunderipallam reservoir, which had attained its full level of 42 feet.
The Public Works Department, which maintains the dam, , released 200 to 500 cusecs of water into the canal, which merges with river Bhavani after crossing the 10 villages.
Revenue officials said the dam was still receiving good inflows, which would be released to safeguard it.
