Thanks to the timely intervention of the Prakasam District Legal Services Authority, the marriage of a 13-year-old girl with a 25-year-old man was stopped here on Friday.
On a tip-off, social activists from HELP led by para-legal volunteer B.V. Sagar rushed to the house of the girl with a team of police personnel from I Town police station and stopped the marriage. On the directions from DLSA Chairperson and Principal District Judge M.G. Priyadarshini, the girl was put in rescue home Bala Sadan to enable her to continue her studies.
The seventh class student had confided to the judge that her mother had arranged the marriage against her wish and that she was keen on continuing her studies, Sagar said.
