GREATER NOIDA: A 25-year-old construction worker died when the autorickshaw in which he was travelling collided with a speeding car in Dankaur on Saturday.
The worker was identified as Sachin Kumar, a resident of Bhata village in Dankaur. On Saturday, he was travelling towards his workplace in Kasna in an autorickshaw, when a Maruti Ertiga coming from the opposite side hit the auto on the service lane of Yamuna expressway around 7.30am. Sachin sustained injuries in the head and multiple fractures in his body while the drivers of both the auto and car fled the spot. Passersby rushed him to Yatharth Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
"The accident took place on the service road of Yamuna Expressway. The car hit the auto in a head-on collision. Sachin was thrown out of the vehicle due to the impact. The auto driver and the driver of the Ertiga abandoned the vehicles and fled," said Jitender Singh, the investigating officer. The bumper of the Ertiga was damaged, but the driver apparently escaped unhurt, police said. An FIR under Section 304A (death due to negligence) of IPC has been registered against the unidentified driver of the Ertiga at Dankaur police station. "The case was filed on the basis of a complaint by Ompal, Sachin's father. We are trying to identify the car owner through its registration number," an officer said.
The body has been sent for post-mortem, and reports are awaited. A police team later towed the car and auto to the police station and cleared the stretch.
