Google responds to complaints regarding new Pixel phones, extends warranty benefits

Google has responded to the complaints against Pixel 2 claiming that the model is at par with other models using similar technology.

Mario Queiroz, Vice President of Product Management, Google Hardware wrote in the Pixel user community forum that the device had undergone rigorous quality control screening. Comparing the model with other smartphones using OLED screens he stated that the burn-in effect (also referred as differential aging) is in line with that of other premium smartphones and should not affect the normal, day-to-day user experience.

According to the post, the company had started to investigate about the burn in complaints as early as October 22. Queiroz said that the issue of colour saturation that has been a key matter of debate was due to the unique design of the model that was ‘built to take advantage of multiple facets of the innovative new pOLED technology and to achieve a more natural and accurate rendition of colours.’

The VP also said that in order to solve the concerns of users, the company has taken several measures including an option to boost colours by 10 percent. Google will also introduce a new mode for more saturated colours. This new mode will be made available in a few weeks through a software update on Pixel phones.

In addition, to regain the confidence of the customers, Queiroz has declared that both Pixel 2 and Pixel XL will come with an extended warranty period of two years.
