The rupee was trading 25 paise lower at 65.07 to a dollar in the afternoon trade today amid gains in the US currency in global markets.
Forex dealers said the dollar strengthened against major global currencies which hit the rupee sentiment.
The rupee opened at 65.05 and traded between 65.11 and 64.96 in intra-day deals.
In the overseas currency market, the ECB's dovish stance sent the euro to a three-month low of $1.1631. The dollar was little moved against the yen at 114.09, near Wednesday's three-month high of 114.245.
The European Central Bank extended its bond purchases and reduced the chances that it would hike interest rates in 2018.
Yesterday, the rupee had gained 7 paise to end at over one-week high of 64.82 on sustained selling of the American currency by banks and exporters.
