THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has asked district collectors and heads of departments to focus on development and social security. The decisions taken by the officials should be people-centric, he said at the concluding session of the annual conference of collectors and heads of departments here.

After the LDF came to power,  there had been a considerable change in the administrative level, he said. People were looking for a big change from the government. And that could be achieved only through bringing in changes in the present situation of functioning, he told the conference.

Noting the officials should see to it that all the programmes initiated by the government were completed within a time frame, Vijayan said the benefits should reach each individual.

Though Kerala had a good name of being a corruption-free state, the chief minister said  he did not believe all the services were free of corruption. The interference of the authorities could bring in a major change in that, he said and asked them to take strict action against corruption.

Pointing out that Navakeralam (New Kerala) was not a fancy slogan, he said it was an attempt to rebuild the state. If all the missions were implemented within the time frame, Kerala would see revolutionary changes, he added.

He said the officials should ensure Central projects were implemented in a time-bound manner. On conducting official meets, the Chief Minister said there should be a clear agenda and coordination between departments for the speedy implementation of the projects.

As part of transforming  Kerala into a vibrant investment destination, Vijayan said it was bringing in new policies for ease of doing business. Despite all that, there would be impediments if the officials took a negative approach. For the state’s development, more investment should come, he said.
