Art exhibition ‘Pink Spirit’ to aid cancer patients

Nagpur: An exhibition showcasing vibrant masterpieces by women artists was jointly organized by HCG NCHRI Cancer Centre and HCG Foundation in association with Swasti — The Contemporary Art Gallery at the centre near Kalamna ring road on Thursday. It was inaugurated by renowned artist Chandrakant Channe.
As October is the breast cancer awareness month, the theme chosen was 'Pink Spirit 2017' where professionals as well are amateur artists stepped forward to build artwork that depicted the inner strength of women, supporting the noble cause.
Around 40 paintings containing thought provoking messages and innovative concepts were displayed during the event. Water colours and acrylic paints on canvas were used for most of the creations. Local artists too got a chance to get noticed along with experts hailing from Bengaluru and Delhi.
The aim behind the event was to assist underprivileged breast cancer patients so that they get world class treatment. The gallery will remain open for public up to November end.
Speaking to TOI, Channe said, "The ambience is set up in a fantastic manner. The colourful paintings are a treat to the eyes. With intricate designs, fine detailing and usage of different tools to form pattern, the women have done a marvellous job. This is great way to encourage the upcoming women artists."
City artist Vidya Rao was among the ones who poured their heart out through art. Her painting showed bright yellow butterflies, tall grass and pink hued sky. She said, "The butterfly symbolizes women who are surrounded by worldly worries on earth. They should realize their worth, understand that there is much more to life and use their wings to fly high freely."
Bhagya Ajaikumar, director of Swasti said, "I am very happy with the enormous support shown for this cause as it will improve the quality of care for cancer patients and promote early awareness, detection and in-depth research."
Dr Suchitra Mehta, director and head of Psycho-Oncology HCG said, "Cancer can be treated with a holistic medical approach. With positive attitude and support from all, patient can fight this dreaded disease in a better way. Through this exhibition we wish to inspire people to change the way they look at problems in their lives. Art therapy is a proven method of supportive care for cancer patients to understand that they can really add life to years after cancer."
