With the aim of encouraging students of both rural and urban areas to seek admission in sainik schools and join the defence forces, Sainik School Bijapur principal Tamojeet Biswas began a 700-km cycling tour on Thursday evening.

Col. Biswas plans to cover Almatti, Ilkal, Hosapete, Chitradurga, Chikkanayakanahalli and Holenarsipur before reaching the Sainik School in Kodagu. He will cover six districts and arrive in Kodagu on October 31.

He plans to cycle almost 200 km every day and, on his way, will visit schools and interact with students and encourage them to join the military. He will explain to them the career options available in the military and also how a military life could distinguish them from the common man. “Our objective is to make more youngsters join the defence forces and serve the nation. This message will be passed on to rural and urban students who may not have adequate knowledge about the field,” Col. Biswas said.

Saying that Sainik Schools provide the best education in the country, Col. Biswas said they don’t confine students to the academic but help them grow in various spheres of life. He added that Sainik School Bijapur was among the best in the country, with an “excellent academic record”.

Col. Biswas has participated in a similar rally earlier, cycling around 250 km from Vijayapura to Satara in Maharashtra.
